Auringer Stands with Orange County Sheriff Paul Arteta, Blasts Albany for Undermining Local Law Enforcement and Costing Taxpayers

“Sheriff Paul Arteta and the men and women of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office have my full support. They are highly trained professionals who understand their community and have demonstrated that they can safely and responsibly work with federal law enforcement.

Governor Hochul’s decision to force Orange County to end its agreement with ICE doesn’t make our communities safer. It disregards the training and professionalism of the Sheriff’s Office and takes away a partnership that helps law enforcement do its job.

It also comes with a real cost to Orange County taxpayers. The federal agreement generated revenue for the county and helped offset the cost of operating the jail. Now Pat Ryan’s allies in Albany are forcing local taxpayers to absorb that loss.

Sheriff Arteta was elected by the people of Orange County to protect their communities and responsibly manage his department. I support his decision to challenge this law and will continue to stand with him and the dedicated law enforcement professionals who serve Orange County.”
