Auringer: PatGPT Can’t Be Trusted to Rein In AI While He Stands to Get Rich From It
Following Jacob Coxon’s warning of possible human extinction, Auringer calls on Ryan to divest from every AI-related investment
Kingston NY - September 10, 2026 — Congressional candidate Jackie Auringer today called on Congressman Pat Ryan to immediately divest from every AI-related stock and private ownership interest he holds, declaring that Ryan has proven he cannot be trusted to rein in an industry from which he stands to profit personally.
“PatGPT has already proven he cannot be trusted to rein in AI,” Auringer said. “When he had the opportunity to protect children from its dangers, he voted against the bipartisan Protect Kids Act. Now, while leading researchers warn that uncontrolled AI could threaten humanity itself, Ryan remains positioned to get rich from the industry’s growth.”
Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon ignited the latest national uproar when he resigned from the company and warned that artificial intelligence could cause human extinction by 2030. Coxon, who previously conducted research at OpenAI, accused the companies of racing toward self-improving superintelligence and “gambling with our lives.”
Other leading researchers have publicly supported Coxon’s warning, including Anthropic Alignment Science leader Evan Hubinger, who said the company still lacks a plan for keeping superintelligence under human control.
Ryan, meanwhile, has disclosed a substantial private ownership interest in Socure, an AI-driven identity-verification company that has received major government contracts and could eventually pursue a public offering. Ryan’s most recent financial disclosure valued his interest at between $100,001 and $250,000.
“Ryan attacks ‘AI oligarchs’ in public while maintaining his own private stake in the AI economy,” Auringer said. “PatGPT has proven he cannot credibly regulate an industry when its success could produce an enormous personal windfall for him.”
Auringer called on Ryan to:
Immediately divest from every individual stock and private ownership interest connected to artificial intelligence;
Disclose the complete value and terms of those investments;
Publicly report any sale or transfer of those assets; and
Recuse himself from AI-related legislation until the divestment is complete.
“This is a fundamental conflict of interest,” Auringer concluded. “Pat Ryan should divest now.”
