Statement from Jackie Auringer on Possible Newburgh ICE Facility

"I fully support ICE doing its job and removing criminal, illegal immigrants who threaten our communities.

Joe Biden and Pat Ryan created this mess by allowing chaos at the border. Now Governor Hochul is making it worse by ending cooperation between ICE and local law enforcement and forcing an end to existing local detention agreements, which generate millions to help pay for our jails. Instead of helping solve the problem, Ryan and Hochul are playing political games that make our communities less safe, make immigration enforcement more dangerous for officers, and ultimately cost taxpayers more.

These political games contribute to the federal government needing to site facilities, like the one in Newburgh, which, for these reasons, I oppose."
