Statement from Jackie Auringer on Iran Framework Agreement and the Need to Refocus on Affordability at Home
"We should all be relieved by reports of an agreement with Iran that could bring this conflict to an end. We honor the 13 service members who gave their lives, and we pray for their families, their loved ones, and all who served in harm's way.
Iran remains the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism, and we all hope this framework is translated into a lasting peace that ends Iran's ability to export terror and prevents it from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Preventing a nuclear Iran is not just an American responsibility; it is a responsibility shared by the entire world. Going forward, the burden of confronting that threat should be shared more fairly by our allies, partners and the civilized world.
The Pentagon has reported that military operations and equipment costs connected to this conflict have already reached roughly $29 billion. At a time when Americans are paying higher costs for gas, groceries, energy, housing, and nearly everything else, we cannot ignore the cost of prolonged conflict abroad.
If I am elected to Congress, my focus will be on lowering costs, expanding opportunity, and making life more affordable for families across the Hudson Valley."
