Auringer Calls on Pat Ryan to Support Stop Insider Trading Act
KINGSTON, N.Y. - July 22, 2026 - Congressional candidate Jackie Auringer today called on Congressman Pat Ryan to vote for H.R. 7008, the Stop Insider Trading Act, which would stop members of Congress - and their spouses and kids - from buying individual stocks while in office.
Ryan already has vast stock holdings, including a private stake in Socure, the AI and identity-verification company with vast state and federal contracts. This bill wouldn't touch that. But it would stop him and his family from buying any more individual AI stock going forward.
**"Pat Ryan shouldn't be able to vote on AI regulation with one hand while buying more AI stocks with the other,"** Auringer said. **"This bill is a basic safeguard. It stops members of Congress and their families from building stock portfolios while they have information and influence the rest of us don't."**
The bill lets members keep what they already own but bars future stock purchases. It also requires members and their families to give the public 7 to 14 days' notice before selling.
Ryan may point to the TRUST in Congress Act, which he's backed, as tougher than H.R. 7008 because it would require divestment or a qualified blind trust rather than just grandfathering existing holdings.
**"Nothing stops Ryan from meeting that higher standard today, on his own, regardless of what Congress does with either bill,"** said Auringer.
Auringer said Ryan should say publicly whether he or his family plan to buy more tech or AI stocks, and explain how he keeps his day job separate from his stock portfolio.
**"Public service shouldn't be an investment strategy,"** Auringer said. **"Ryan has a chance to support a commonsense rule that applies to him just like everyone else in Congress, he should vote for it."**
